The MWA Story
My family immigrated to Napa Valley in the 1800s and has been in the area ever since. I visited my first winery while I was still in high school and began wine tasting as an undergraduate at UC Davis. I hosted my first wine tasting party during my freshman year and they have continued to be a hallmark of my social calendar. Working at a wine store doing promotions while working on my master's degree at the Ohio State University, gave me an understanding of what I needed to know to market wine. After my return to California I poured for wineries at wine tasting events, later launching a wine tour design business. My work as a professor took me away from tour design, but my enthusiasm for wine continued. I have been to nearly 500 wineries in 9 states and in 6 countries and am finding more all the time!
The launch of My Wine Advisor in 2012 brought new dimensions to how I thought about wine services and products. Advisor is the focal part of the business. I have advised bars and restaurants on their wine programs and how to work with distributors. A key benefit of the MWA Wine Club is unlimited free advising on all things wine: pairings, touring, & buying. Advisors are also educators. Every year I offer numerous classes on a variety of wine topics where students can learn about wines from other countries, food & wine pairings, how to develop their sensory skills, etc.
My goal is to bring wine to consumers without the pretension of wine snobbery. I do this through customized tasting notes, curated wine experiences, social media and the website. Once a teacher, always a teacher!
